Reports suggest that Senior Congress leader, Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and his wife rushed Jothimani to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi after she complained of high fever and severe body pain.

Jothimani Claims Delhi Police Manhandled Her

The MP had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla earlier this week and asked for privilege proceedings to be initiated against the Delhi Police for allegedly manhandling her and other party colleagues as they were peacefully protesting at the Congress headquarters. A video of the incident had previously gone viral as well.

Reportedly, Jothimani in her letter wrote, "They had brutally assaulted us and tore my clothes and committed police excess. They detained us illegally and also did not even provide water to drink for around 1.30 hours in the scorching heat."

The Congress leader had also recorded a video recounting the incident which was widely shared by her colleagues. "Hon speaker @ombirlakota Ji pls take this into cognizance. This is an assault on our institution," she had written resharing the video.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who also shared her video, called the incident outrageous and wrote in his tweet, "This is outrageous in any democracy. To deal with a woman protestor like this violates every Indian standard of decency, but to do it to a LokSabha MP is a new low. I condemn the conduct of the @DelhiPolice and demand accountability. speaker @ombirlakota please act!"
