As per reports, the girl was walking towards her school on Monday when some men tried to harass her. But when the girl protested their attempts, the men were enraged and started thrashing her. Then, they buried the girl in the pit believing that she was dead.

How the girl was rescued

However, the fate had different plans. The girl was spotted by a local passer-by who rescued her. The passer-by found her parents' contact details and called them up. The girl's parents rushed to the spot and pulled the girl out of the mud.

When the girl was rescued, her face was swollen due to injuries. She was immediately sent to the primary health centre from where she was shifted to VIMS in the district.

The girl's family informed the police and told them about the incident. The police registered a complaint based on their statement. The local police station in charge said that the investigation into the case has begun.

A parallel incident of harassment of schoolgirls

In the first week of January 2024, a similar case of street harassment of school girls was reported in Gujarat. Six minor school girls jumped off a moving truck to save themselves from the alleged attempt of molestation. The incident happened in Gujarat's Chhotaudepur district where a pick-up truck driver and five other men in the truck tried to rob and harass the girls when they boarded the truck while returning from school.

According to reports, the girls are aged between 15-17 years and belong to a village in the Sankheda taluk of the district. According to the district superintendent of police Imtiyaz Shaikh, the girls were returning from their school which is 5 km away from their homes. They boarded the pick-up truck where the men not only robbed them of money and other belongings but also tried to molest them. In an attempt to save themselves, the girls started jumping off the speeding truck.
