The woman has now filed a complaint with the police. In her complaint, the woman said that her husband started to abuse her physically, saying that he wanted a son to protect his family and property. They reportedly got married in 2017. The woman's husband and mother-in-law are reportedly lawyers and her sister-in-law is a doctor.

As per reports, she had given birth to a girl in 2009. Two years later, she became pregnant again. That is when her husband took her for a forced abortion. At the clinic, he said that she did not want a baby. After this incident, atrocities on the woman started to increase. Her husband went to the extent of starting her "treatment" to have a child in Mumbai.

The accused then took her to Bangkok for a pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. The 40-year-old underwent "treatment" and surgery there. The sex of the embryo was reportedly examined before conception. She was given over 1,500 hormonal and steroid injections to bear a son. The said procedures are banned in India.

The woman said that the treatment was carried out against her consent. Her husband forced her to abort her child eight times. The police are carrying out a further investigation of the case. In India the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act makes it illegal to disclose the sex of an unborn child except in a medical emergency.

In September 2020, in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun a man in his desperation for a son, a father of five daughters, allegedly ripped open the womb of his pregnant wife to find out what the gender of the foetus.

In May this year, actor Chandini, who was seen in the movie Nadodigal claimed that the former Minister of AIADMK party Manikandan forced her to get her child aborted.
