Twitter India has been trending with demand of #UPSCExtraAttempt after social activist Yogita Bhayana was detained this afternoon, for the "protest" to discuss for an extra attempt and age relaxation in UPSC Civil Services Examination.

As per confirmed sources, Bhayana and other UPSC aspirants have now been released.

10 things about: How and Why were Yogita Bhayana and UPSC aspirants detained:

  1. Five people comprising UPSC aspirants, a lawyer and an advocate, were detained today morning for reaching out to Home Minister's residence to discuss the possibility of age relaxation and an additional attempt for the UPSC Civil Services Examination
  2. Today afternoon Yogita Bhayana was also detained by the police for her "protest". She denies of any protest allegation and says there were up for an appointment that was given to them by the person named Narendra Kumar from Home Minister's office on Sunday.
  3. In the video posted by her, she is accompanied by a girl named Saraswati from Karnataka in a police van. Saraswati, a civil engineer in Dubai, explains of the missed attempt in the UPSC examination-2020 as she could not travel due to international travel ban and how she wants to work for the country.
  4. Yogita, along with other UPSC aspirants from all over the country proceeded to meet the minister few days back on the same issue and had to return back without any success.
  5. UPSC Civil Services Examination currently provides only six attempts to general candidates and maximum age limit for them is set to 32 years . In wake of pandemic, many lost the opportunity of performing well in their last attempt.
  6. Many students have gone into a hunger strikeat Delhi's Jantar Mantar against the decision of government to detain the fellow mates and social activist Yogita Bhayana.
  7. Government informed the Supreme Court of India in February,2021 about the "ex- gratia, one time, restricted relaxation" to candidates who appeared during the 2020 UPSC Civil Services Examination. However, later the government informed the apex court that relaxing age limit for those who missed the examination will be discriminatory towards all candidates.
  8. Government has not yet taken action on age relaxation and missed attempts of candidates who have reached the age limit.
  9. Bhayana spoke to SheThePeople Team and confirmed that they were indeed detained at Mandir Marg police station of Delhi.
  10. Yogita, being a member of PARI- People Against Rape in India, is prominent figure in fighting for the rights of rape survivors and victims. She spearheaded the Nirbhaya case of Delhi, Hathras and Delhi Cant case as well. The famous social activist is a recipient of National Commission for Women Award in 2012 and served the NCW Committee on Gender and Education.
