Twitter India, BCCI Join Hands To Launch Seven Emojis For Women's T20 Challenge

This Women's T20 Challenge is the first time that an Indian women’s sports league would get its own Twitter emoji during a cricket series.

With Women’s T20 Challenge round the corner, Twitter India and the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) recently decided to join hands in launching seven new custom emojis around the league, along with its teams and the respective captains. To activate these emojis, fans would have to tweet using the following hashtags: #MithaliRaj or #Mithali, #Harmanpreet or #Harman, #Smriti or #SM18, #WomensT20Challenge, #Velocity, #Supernovas, and #Trailblazers.

Twitter India released the emojis on its handle

Twitter India tweeted about this interesting update during the noon of November 2 in a gif. Notably, this will be the first time that an Indian women’s sports league would get its own Twitter emoji during a cricket series. These emojis have been released for an enhanced experience for the fans during the ongoing of the Challenge. Users will be able to cheer and show instant support to their favourite teams, players and captains. Furthermore, fans would be able to participate in live conversations in addition to following the conversations.

"This women’s cricket season, cheer on your favourite team and captain with Twitter emojis. Let's go... #MithaliRaj or #Mithali #Harmanpreet or #Harman #Smriti or #SM18 #WomensT20Challenge #Velocity #Supernovas #Trailblazers", said Twitter India.

In 2017, Mithali Raj became the first female cricketer from India to get an emoji during the Women’s Cricket World Cup. This year, Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of Supernovas and Smriti Mandhana, captain of Trailblazers, are also getting emojis in their name. Mithali Raj is leading the team Velocity.

"It’s finally that time of the year!", reads the captains' tweets

All the three captains, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Smriti Mandhana  urged their fans on using their emojis on their respective handles an hour before Twitter India, tweeting “It’s finally that time of the year! #WomensT20Challenge”. Fans are already activating the emojis by using the said hashtags.

The cricketers have been keen on returning to the field as the COVID-19 pandemic had forced a break. Women’s T20 Challenge is set to be played between November 4 and 9 in Sharjah, Mumbai. Trailblazers, Supernovas and Velocity would be the contending teams for the challenge.
