Pooja Banerjee, an actress who is known for her roles in serials like Kasauti Zindagi Ki and Kehne Ko Hum Safar Hai 2, is also part of BCL (Box Cricket League), a reality TV show. Now, she has become the first women to win the Best Player of the Match award.
The Box Cricket League is a reality TV show in which celebrities take part to win the cricket matches. Launched by Ekta Kapoor, the reality TV show has been played for four seasons till date. This show streams on MTV and ALTBalaji App too. Around 150 well-known TV celebrities compete in 6 teams to win the tournament.
The teams playing this year are Delhi Dragons, Goa Killers, Chennai Swaggers, Kolkata Babu Moshyes, Bengluru Warriors and Azamgarh Royals. The actress, Pooja Banerjee plays for Goa Killers.
Banerjee, is the first woman to receive the Best Player of the Match title in BCl. So, why are we celebrating and acknowledging this? Because, cricket being a male dominated sport usually has men being declared the best players. Banerjee played better than most players on the field, therefore it was justified that she wins the award. She has set an example of how women cannot and should not be underestimated. They have equal potential as men. Banerjee went on to win not just the best player award, but was also declared the Woman of the Match too.
After claiming the award, Banerjee said:
“I was the cynosure of all eyes at “BCL.” There was much pressure on me as it was a very critical moment for our team, but it turned out to be a success. Though I have never played cricket earlier, I enjoyed Box Cricket League. I had a hat-trick for six sixes, and Ekta Kapoor applauded me for my performance.”
We all can draw inspiration from Banerjee, as she exemplifies that women can shine in the sports arena too, and that gender has nothing to do with the ability to play sports. Her bagging two prestigious awards for the first time symbolises that women are no less and that it is time to recognise female talent in BCL.
Banerjee was injured during the match. Talking about her injury and the incident, she said:
“Once while making a run I fell flat on my face. I had my lips swollen, and the fellow actors thought I had got a lip job done!”
She played well despite being injured, showing us that nothing can stop us from achieving our goal, that is except ourselves. We all need to get inspired by her, and appreciate her win because after all she has broken yet another stereotype. Being the first women to win this award, it is imperative that we understand the change in mind-sets which is taking place. We also need to comprehend that finally women are getting the limelight they deserve.
Banerjee definitely deserved those awards, so we all need to congratulate her and hope that she continues to play well throughout the league matches.
