There is no guide to self-love and acceptance. It is like rock climbing and it is hard work. There is no Lizzo background music or Daawat-e-Ishq treatment.

When have we not heard about the importance of being beautiful on the inside? These corny and cheesy lines from Arijit Singh songs flavoured with Atif Aslam on the outside do not work in real life. Dating apps have profiles for a reason. Social media is our validating friend for a reason. Even LinkedIN has a profile picture, so let’s get real. Looks definitely matter in 2020 where even during a fatal pandemic, home salon services are under high demand.

We can never control the trends of what “good looking” or “presentable” is. But we can always decide how we feel about ourselves. Our self-image and confidence is something which no trend can overwhelm. If you are steady on your two feet about who you are and what you feel, there is no trend which can tell you otherwise.

There is no guide to self-love and acceptance. It is like rock climbing and it is hard work. There is no Lizzo background music or Daawat-e-Ishq treatment. Sure, the view is amazing once you reach the top. You feel better about yourself consistently and do not rely on others for validation.

Here are some suggestions by Raina Raonta for becoming a kinder you:

1.Milind Soman, who?

Get naked. No, we don’t mean with anyone else. We are talking about you accepting how you look naked with your stretch marks, scars, tummy rolls and cellulite. Normalise being “okay” with how you look on your bad days. If there are goals you wish to have, set them in moderation. It is okay to want to change yourself. It is just not okay to hate yourself.

2.Pet Pooja and how to be moderately religious

Exercising five times in a week and making sure you are giving yourself the right nutrition is equally important. Don’t cut down on essentials like butter and ghee and give yourself regular cheat days. Being mindful about what you put inside your belly is going to go a long way in becoming healthy.

3.AAL is Well

Self-deprecating humor should not be your entire personality. There are several things that can be great about you. Insulting yourself and being the clown of the group is not cool. In that case we test you positive for having the edgy teen syndrome. There is nothing great about not liking yourself or making fun of yourself.

4.Do not treat yourself like a shade card

You are a human not a box of paint. If you constantly keep comparing yourself to how other people look like there is no way you will feel comfortable in a room full of people. Christmas lights are beautiful and so is gulab jamun. Jalebi has its own gorgeousness, while Diwali diyas have their own charm.

5.Shake hands with your body

Look at your support system and the people who love you for who you are. You have to learn how to love yourself the same way. There is nobody who will do the homework for you. It has to start at home and within yourself first. It sounds like massive work and it indeed really is. Rest assured, the ride is worth it and the scenery is everything you ever need.
