India Among Best Countries To Live In, But NOT For Women & Children

In the report "Best Countries for raising Kids," India ranks 59th. Moreover, a report released by Indian Railway states that around 16,457 children were rescued from trains and railway stations from across the country in 2019.

In the recent survey conducted by US News in association with Wharton and BAV Group, India ranks 25th among the best countries to live in 2020. The report analyzed 73 countries in the world. Even though we are one of the best countries to live in 2020, India still ranks 59th in the Best Countries to raise children. Even in the Women, Peace, and Security Index 2019, India ranked 133 out of 167 countries.

The study analyzed countries based on nine parameters, namely- Entrepreneurship, Adventure, Citizenship, Cultural Influence, Heritage, Movers, Open for Business, Power, Quality of Life. India ranked the worst in Citizenship. Under this parameter, it is analyzed if a country cares about human rights, cares about the environment, gender equality, progressive, religious freedom, respects property rights, trustworthy, well-distributed political power. When it comes to movers, it was analyzed how different, unique, dynamic the country is.

Why Not The Best Country For Children

In the report "Best Countries for raising Kids," India ranks 59th. According to India Today, a report released by Indian Railway states that around 16,457 children were rescued from trains and railway stations from across the country in 2019. This means the Railway Protection Force (RPF) rescued nearly 46 children every day. This substantiates that though we rank 30 in quality of life, India still has to go a long way in the quality of life of its children. In the Global Hunger Index (GHI) released this Tuesday, India stands at a low 102nd spot, eight points below Pakistan and 25 points below Nepal. The index involved a total of 117 countries and categorized them in groups where hunger issues are extremely alarming, serious, moderate and low.

Why Not The Best Country For Women?

Women's Safety is the most paradoxical term in Indian Society. The recent Hyderabad Rape case substantiates the fact. In fact, in the report "Women, Peace, and Security Index 2019", India ranked  133 out of 167 countries. Countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia, rank better than India in the index. India ranks at 95 out of 129 countries in the new Gender Equality Index 2019.  In the 2020 rankings for Best Countries for Women, India slipped one place, to the 58th rank as compared to its 2019 ranking.
