This is not the first time Yousafzai has chanted the praises of Thunberg. In September, the Nobel Prize laureate tweeted that she felt delighted to see that young ladies around the world are driving the climate change movement.

"Thank you to girls like @GretaThunberg for using your voice, speaking truth to power – and encouraging other young people to do the same," the 22-year-old signed.

Discussion held by Thunberg

It is not known what the pair talked about. Alan Rusbridger, the principal of Lady Margaret Hall, said Thunberg spoke to students about "science, voting, the limits of protest, divestment, real zero v net zero, and much more" during her visit.

Responding to the young women's photos, others have declared them as "legends" and characterised the meeting as "awesome". Posting on Twitter, one fan, Stefan Reichwein, said that both are pure inspiration and hope. The world needs more women like them.

Jennifer Cassidy, a lecturer in politics at the University of Oxford, wrote that as she walked out her door, up to one street and saw Malala and Greta Thunberg talking outside. "Two powerful young women are standing for justice, truth and equality for all."

Fighting against Global Issues

Both women shot to worldwide fame after persisting and standing up for major global concerns: climate change and women's education.

Thunberg is a household name after skipping school in Sweden to strike against climate change, while Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan for fighting for girls to be permitted to go to school.

In 2014, Malala became the youngest receiver of the Nobel Peace Prize. She became a global figure of the resilience of women in the face of adversity while Thunberg was chosen for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 and 2020.
