The Women's World Cup cricket has transformed the fortunes for all countries not just ours says Veda Krishnamurthy. The attention, spotlight and viewership has been tremendous she says in an exclusive chat with SheThePeople.TV. Indian women’s cricket team is on a high right now after finishing runners up in ICC World Cup 2017 tournament held in England through July.

GAMECHANGING TOURNAMENT

Describing the tournament as revolutionary, cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy said that not just the Indian team but all the eight teams did tremendously well. “It has been very competitive. And this world cup is going to lay a strong foundation for the next generation,” said Krishnamurthy to SheThePeople.TV in an exclusive interview.

“I played from Uttarakhand then UP but there is lack of equipment like wicket and a good turf to play a good game. However, there are many supporters and that is why we have reached this stage and so the journey has been quite nice.”

The batswoman believes that passion is what it takes to become a cricket player. She added, “Talent is not the only trigger but hard work can also push you into the team. There are many players who have played India because of their hardwork. If you want to do it, you just do it overcoming all odds against you.”

Karanataka-born cricketer Rajeshwari Gayakwad also spoke to SheThePeople about how she always wanted to play cricket and represent India. She said, “When I started playing I always wanted to play for the country but I never knew that the women’s team does not get much support. But when I debuted in 2014 I realized that the facilities are much better than what our seniors told us about and BCCI has really helped in encouraging and promoting the game. Having said that, a lot needs to be done still and we hope it is only going to get better from now on.”

IPL COULD BE THE ANSWER?

She further added that if women’s IPL happens then it will be great for the team and for those who aspire to be cricketers in future. “It will not only be good for domestic players to have more time on the field and exposure,” said Rajeshwari.
