He has received numerous National Film Awards for Devdas and Black, but although his later works Saawariya (2007) and Guzaarish failed to continue his success (2010), the women in his films have always stood out.  

Starring Alia Bhatt, Shantanu Maheshwari, Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles, Gangubai Kathawadi is based on life of Gangubai Harjeevandas.

“When I met Ranbir for the first time, I was 12 years old. He was assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali and I had to do a photoshoot with him. And I was so shy that I had to keep my head on his shoulder and I could not do it. Bhansali sir was saying I was flirting with Ranbir,” Alia revealed.

The matter went to court and the decision of the Supreme Court on Gangubai Kathiawadi’s release date came on Thursday.

Just like most Sanjay Leela Bhansali films like Padmaavat, Gangubai Kathiawadi has also been riddled with legal cases and protests from the locals at the Kathiawadi area in Mumbai, Maharashtra. 

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been found amid yet another controversy regarding the title of his movie as Supreme Court has suggested to change the name of Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The film has been given the UA certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. This means that people of all age groups can watch the film

Maheshwari made his debut as an actor with the serial Dil Dostii Dance on Channel V.

Along with Alia Bhatt’s the song also featured actor and dancer Shantanu Maheshwari who is playing the role of Gangubai’s love interest in the film.

Earlier, the son Baba Raoji Shah and granddaughter Bharti of Gangubai had also objected to the release of the film and taken the issue to the Bombay High Court.
