Actress and singer Ruma Guha Thakurta passed away at her residence in Kolkata at the age of 84, due to old age-related ailments. Thankurta also founded a song and dance troupe called the Calcutta Youth Choir in 1958,  which is known for its performances on folk and mass songs.
