The much-anticipated Oscars 2023 ceremony has already taken place, and just like every year, the Oscar has received its fair share of criticism. Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman, has criticized the 95th Academy Awards for the absence of female directors among the Best Director nominees.

The Chinese helmer is also a stand-up comedian who took part in the TV show Lok Street which is about improv comedy. Later, she performed her sketch Lok Street during the 2015 CCTV New Year’s Gala.

The Cleopatra biopic will capture the “story for the first time through women’s eyes, both behind and in front of the camera,” Gadot had earlier said defending her casting as Cleopatra.

“You know, anybody can make this movie and anybody can go ahead and do it. I’m very passionate that I’m going to do my own too,” said Gal Gadot.

Patty Jenkins received a 10 million dollar paycheck, a record salary for a female filmmaker, for Wonder Woman 1984.

“I’m so excited! Please take a photo and send it. I saw the model of what it should be looking like and it’s insane. I’m so, so honored.”

With this, Jenkins will become the first woman ever to direct a Star Wars feature film.

She tweeted, “I love embarking on new journeys, I love the excitement of new projects, the thrill of bringing new stories to life. Cleopatra is a story I wanted to tell for a very long time. Can’t be more grateful about this A team.”

Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and is directed by Patty Jenkins.
