Journalist Michael Wolff’s controversial new book, ‘Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House’, shines the spotlight on the first couple. He conducted 200 interviews with people close to the Trump family and in the administration. He even had a few discussions with President Donald Trump.

The book shows how disconnected the first couple is. According to the book, Melania never wanted Trump to run for president or win the election, even though she has denied those claims. He claims that Melania’s marriage to Trump was perplexing to almost everybody around him

Even when they were both at Trump Tower at the same time, he wrote, the couple would often “go days at a time without contact”.

“Often she did not know where he was, or take much notice of that fact. Her husband moved between residences as he would move between rooms,” wrote Wolff.

He also writes that Melania was seen crying with sadness after Trump won the election. She was worried about raising their 12-year-old son Barron in the White House. This was why taxpayers paid between $127,000 to $146,000 in security costs for her life in New York, until she moved into the White House.

Trump has referred to Melania as his trophy wife on multiple occasions. Wolff also talks about how Trump has been chronically unfaithful.

Trump is furious about the book. “I authorized Zero access to White House (actually turned him down many times) for author of phony book! I never spoke to him for book,” Trump tweeted.

Stephanie Grisham, Melania’s White House spokeswoman, also said that Melania felt that the book deserves to be sold in the bargain fiction section.

However, there are reports from many other sources about the first couple’s drifting marriage.
