Female-Centric Shows 2018

During the long holidays, there’s nothing as satisfying as settling down with some comfort food and binge watching a TV series. Our favourite shows are streaming online and there's no better time to catch it but now. 2018 has given us shows with high intensity, humour and of course a league of strong female leads. So here's some of the must-watch shows on Netflix or Prime.

Old favourites like The Handmaid’s Tale and Netflix’s Jessica Jones (oh and do we love her!returned to rave reviews, while many underrated but equally powerful women in series continued to be vital in 2018.

Without further ado, start your year-end binge watch with these five Badass women as protagonists.

Citizen Rose

We are not updated about Rose McGowan since Harvey Weinstein reportedly silenced her attempts to hold him accountable for sexual assault. Well, wonder not because this new five-part documentary series chronicles the actress-turned-activist’s journey. Earlier, she had released her memoir Brave, and the fight for survivors of assault and harassment is still on. The documentary premiered January 30 on E!.

Orphan Black

The 2018 Emmy nominee Orphan Black has numerous badass women, played by one woman. Actress Tatiana Maslany slays as she portrays different women with varying accents in this series about clones. Her stellar performance and the plot twists will keep you on the edge. The show is a treasure for science geeks as it involves scientific organizations with lots of cloned women.

Killing Eve

It sounds like the Hannibal plot -- only with women and less human flesh eating. Two ferocious women Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are savage in this sharp, unforgiving storyline. From amazing facial expressions to being talented psychopathic assassins, this is exactly the female-led narrative we’ve been waiting for. And, also there's Sandra Oh. Love her performance!

Little Women

Let's leave the psycho assassins or clones behind if you want to enjoy a mere family drama. This adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel, Little Women, is so far one of the most beloved female-centric stories ever written.  The series stars Maya Hawke, Willa Fitzgerald, Annes Elwy, and Kathryn Newton as the four sisters. It premiered May 18 on PBS.

Seven Seconds

If the show's title is not giving you enough provocation, the plot will definitely do the job. The Killing creator Veena Sud returns to a world of crime. The first season was a cover-up of a white police officer accidentally hitting a black teenager with his car. Hooked yet? It premiered February 23 on Netflix.
