Who Is K Kavitha? MLC Urged Centre To Procure Paddy From Telangana Farmers

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Member of Legislative Council (MLC) K Kavitha is the daughter of the state’s Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his wife Shobha. Kavitha joined active politics in 2014.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Member of Legislative Council (MLC) K Kavitha said that the Union government has reneged on their promise of buying paddy from the farmers of Telangana and also retorted that the government should not create a situation of confrontation again with the farmers by refusing to purchase paddy.

The MLC speaking to the media said, “Paddy procurement from Telangana is nil. We demand the Union government’s support for Telangana farmers. Food Corporation of India doesn’t have a proper procurement policy. We request FCI to release a yearly calendar so that states can direct farmers to sow crops accordingly and that there should be uniform procurement.”

The TRS MLC, who is the daughter of the state’s Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, said if the Union government fails to attend to the situation of the farmers in Telangana, they would be forced to stage a protest in Delhi.

Who is K Kavitha?

Kavitha, daughter of KCR and Shobha, has completed a Bachelor’s in Technology (Computer Science) from VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology and later went to the United States for her Masters's from the University of Southern Mississippi. Reportedly, she has cited her profession as a Social worker on her electoral documents filed for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

K Kavitha has worked as a software engineer in the States before coming back to India. In 2014, after Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh, she returned to help her father and stayed back.

She had contested the general election in 2014 from the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency and won with over 1 lakh votes. Kavitha contested again for the Lok Sabha election in 2019 from Nizamabad to a BJP candidate Arvind Dharmapuri.

She was elected as MLC from Nizamabad in bypoll conducted in October 2020 after sitting member R Bhoopati Reddy was disqualified. She was elected unopposed and took oath as an MLC after biennial polls held in December 2021.

Kavitha, reportedly, is a member of many Parliamentary committees including that of Rural Development, Drinking water and Sanitation.

She was also nominated to the Steering Committee of Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) which works for increasing women's representation in Parliaments. The MLC, has reportedly, travelled as a part of a delegation to many countries. She was part of the Lok Sabha Speaker’s delegation to the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.
