The theatrical release of Shamshera in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on July 22, 2022, featured Ranbir Kapoor in dual role with Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist, alongside Vaani Kapoor. It ultimately became a box office disappointment after receiving mixed to poor reviews. However, the movie is now available to watch on the OTT platform.

In Shamshera, a film with a larger-than-life premise, Ranbir Kapoor plays both Shamshera and his son Balli. The story of the movie revolves around the fictional city of Kaza, where Sanjay Dutt as Daroga Shuddh Singh, a brutal authoritarian, imprisons, enslaves, and tortures a warrior tribe. Shamshera is renowned among his tribe for his unwavering commitment to the independence and honour of his people. The popular streaming service announced today that Shamshera is currently accessible on the service for viewers all over the world.

Vaani Kapoor also announced this on her Instagram with a post. The actor shared the film's poster with the caption, "A heroic tale of grit and determination, ShamsheraOnPrime, watch now only on @primevideoin."

The movie is also available in Tamil and Telugu language dubs in addition to Hindi. Following the digital debuts of Bunty Aur Babli 2, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, and Samrat Prithviraj, the film, which was produced under the name of Yash Raj Films and directed by Karan Malhotra, is the fourth title under the licencing agreement with Yash Raj Films (YRF) to be premiered on Prime Video.

Ranbir Kapoor returned to the big screen with this movie after a four-year break, but it fell short of reviewers' and moviegoers' expectations. He will next be seen in the highly anticipated film Brahmastra, which will hit theatres on September 9. The movie, which also stars Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, and Nagarjuna Akkineni, is much awaited and one of the most expensive Indian movies ever produced. It is the first movie made under the Star Studios banner after Disney purchased 21st Century Fox.
