YouTuber Bhuvan Bam has issued an apology for the objectification of women in his latest video after the National Commission for Women asked Delhi Police to register the First Information Report against him. The video which landed Bam in this soup was titled Automatic Gaadi and many social media users called him out for the regressive comments it made in reference to pahadi women.

Following the backlash, Bam issued an apology on Twitter. "I'm aware that a section in my video has hurt some people. I have edited it to remove that part. People who know me know I have utmost respect for women." The YouTuber further added that he had no intention of hurting anyone. "A heartfelt apology to everyone whose sentiments have been disregarded."

Bam rose to fame with his YouTube channel called BB Ki Vines. He has also appeared in the TVF web series Bachelors, Titu Talks and Dhindora.

The outrage against Bam was triggered after a writer named Ashish Nautiyal posted a snippet from the video, which has now got over 12 million views, on Twitter. In the short video, Bam is shown asking for an automatic car. However, instead of a car dealer, his character ends up talking with what seems like a solicitor for prostitutes, to whom Bam asks, "Pahadan chalegi (Will a model from hilly areas do)?"

After many users tagged NCW and urged it to take action, the commission tweeted, "@NCWIndia has taken cognisance Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to @CPDelhi to register FIR & to take strict action in the matter. NCW has also written to Secy, Ministry of Electronics & IT to take appropriate action against the YouTube channel for violating the dignity of women."

As per the recent update, the section of the video mentioning pahadi women has been removed. The video was uploaded on March 25. It was originally seven minutes and 15 seconds long. However, the edited video still objectifies women, as in the same sequence a character mentions, "...he is saying it is a great model, you can take it from behind also."

Bam is one of the popular personalities in India and has recently created history by becoming the first Indian YouTuber to reach 10 million subscribers. He has also appeared in a short film called Plus Minus, alongside Divya Dutta.
