Australian Women’s Cricket Team Equals Most Consecutive ODI Victories World Record With 21 Wins In A Row

The Australian women’s cricket team defeated New Zealand by 232 runs to sweep the Rose Bowl trophy. In doing so, they have now won 21 ODIs in a row, equalling the all-time world record for most consecutive ODI wins. On Wednesday, team Australia played without its captain Meg Lanning, who missed the game because of an injury, in Brisbane. The women’s cricket team prevailed nonetheless, now tied with the previous record set by Australian men’s team in 2003.

The Australian women cricket team have been maintaining an unbeaten form in ODI format since losing to England on Oct. 29, 2017.

The team has been winning non-stop since March 2018 when they beat India by eight wickets in Vadodara.

According to a report by ANI, Australia’s captain for the day Rachael Haynes and opener Alyssa Healy together made 144 runs. Riding on their opening partnership, Australia posted 325/5 in their fifty overs, their highest ever total against New Zealand. The squad closed a 3-0 sweep of the ODI series.

Regular captain Lanning scored a match-winning 101 not out in Australia’s series-clinching win on Monday, which led the team to reach the milestone 21 with a historic win on Wednesday. “It’s nice to finish off with a big win today,” Lanning said as she accepted the trophy. “It’s a really special effort, especially over a long period of time," Sportstar reported.

The Aussies produced a flawless display in the final match at Allan Border Field to secure a record-equalling 21st consecutive ODI victory!

During the second ODI against New Zealand on Monday, Lanning completed her 14th century in the format. The Australian women dominated the series opener by chasing down a target of 181 in 34th over. After winning the match without a sweat by 7 wickets, the Meg Lanning-led side sealed the series at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
