Sherlyn Chopra Calls Defamation Suit Filed By Raj Kundra-Shilpa Shetty Weapon To Stifle Free Speech

Sherlyn Chopra defamation suit: Actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra recently filed a defamation suit of Rs 50 crore against Sherlyn Chopra. The latter in her reply to the court called the suit a "weapon to stifle the pursuit of justice"

Chopra had earlier filed a police complaint on October 14 at Juhu Police Station in which she made several allegations against Raj Kundra. She also accused him of sexual assault.

Kundra and Shilpa Shetty in their lawsuit called the allegations baseless. As per a report by Times of India, the statement filed read, "The entire allegations made by Ms Sherlyn Chopra against Mr Raj Kundra and Ms Shilpa Shetty Kundra, are concocted, false, fake, frivolous, baseless, without any evidence, even to Ms Sherlyn Chopra’s knowledge, and have been made with an ulterior motive to defame and extort money."

Sherlyn Chopra also took to her social media account and shared the papers she filed as a reply to the lawsuit. In a wordy note, she wrote, "Here are the first & last pages of my Reply Notice, sent by my Legal Team on Oct 23, 2021 to Ripu Sudan alias Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty Kundra with reference to their Defamation Notice."

The statement filed by Sherlyn Chopra read "Unfortunately, a defamation suit is used as a weapon to stifle the pursuit of justice and free speech. It is used as a tool that can enable the accused to turn the tables and make a culprit out of a victim. A defamation suit falls under the category of what is globally known as SLAPP (strategic law against public participation) suits. A SLAPP suit is intended to censor, intimidate and silence a party from speaking freely and fearlessly by burdening them with the stress and cost of a legal defence until they abandon their criticism or opposition.”

Chopra has claimed to be the victim of an alleged porn racket that had Raj Kundra arrested earlier this year. She said that she is now seeking anticipatory bail in the Bombay High Court. Her case will be heard on November 17, 2021, as per reports.
