“I made one silly error during a crucial moment in the second game. The experience of having already played a World Championships final helped Carolina more,” said Saina as reported in TOI.

Saina will still come to be No.1 in the world ranking as Marin who has been World No.1 till now with 80,612 points will not get any extra points for her win. However, Saina, who last in last year’s quarterfinals, will earn 3600 points more making her total to come to 82,792 points.

PM Narendra Modi also congratulated Saina on his twitter account commending her for winning a silver medal for India.

“Although Saina lost, she has won in the sense that she has gone to the final of the prestigious tournament, which was eluding her for the last five chapters,” said Saina’s father Harvir Singh to DNA
