Women optimizing Philanthropic Investments

With more and more women entering the workspace, there has been an increase in the number of women in philanthropic activities. With more control over the finances, they are making philanthropic investments like never before.

 

According to a report by Denver Post, women are more qualified- 51% of the Ph.Ds, college graduates and more than 70 percent of 2012's valedictorians in the US are women; 265 of working wives in the country make more than their husbands. The report also says that in the next 40 years, 70 percent of the $41 trillion global wealth transfer, will be inherited by women.

 

With women controlling half the wealth in the US currently, women are developing programmes to increase and make better women philanthropists, and joining charitable trusts and organizations that help other women and girls.

Donna Hall is the President of the Women Donors Network. It is a national network of women philanthropists that every year effectively puts to use over $150 million for women in need. Hall told Denver Post, “Women are more comfortable working in community, making decisions together, pooling resources and leveraging their collective impact than men.”

Helping advance girls on a global platform are sisters, Swanee and Helen LaKelly Hunt, who founded Women moving Billions. The organization tries to bring women together to raise funding to help young girls. Other organizations that help with funding for women are, Women's Funding Network and Global Fund for women.

 

Another such organization, Colorado Women's Foundation, was founded 25 years ago. The foundation’s President, Louise Atkinson states that the organization, “uniquely positioned to partner with women who want to give strategically to serve women and girls and help them achieve their full potential.”

President of the Rockefeller Foundation, Judith Rodin, told Denver Post that in order to change the world, “the single most important thing we can do is unleash the full power of half the people on the planet — women.”
