Woman set on fire by family: A shocking incident has been reported from the Rayachoti area of the Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh where a 20-year-old girl was allegedly set ablaze by her family members after she refused to marry according to their wishes, police said.
As per a report by ANI, the police said that the woman confessed to her parents that the reason behind her rejecting all the matches brought by her parents for marriage. The girl reportedly had been in a relationship with another man and wanted to marry him.
The woman is currently admitted to a government hospital and undergoing treatment for her burn injuries. Inspector Raju of the Rayachota circle said, “The 20-year-old Tasim from Kothapalli area of Rayachoti town in her statement to us said that her parents had been seeking matches for her marriage for long but she kept on rejecting all of them. She told them she was in love with a boy but her parents were opposed to her marrying him and were forcing her to marry someone else.”
The inspector added that the woman and her family had been engaged in quarrels. “Tuesday evening there was a verbal brawl in the family,” he said.
Tasim in her statement to the police alleged that her parents along with her brother poured petrol on her and set her on fire. It was her sister who took her to the nearby hospital. The police said that the woman’s family will be arrested soon for the attempt to murder.
Inspector Raju added, “On intimation, we reached the hospital and recorded her statement. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the woman’s parents and younger brother. We will arrest them soon.”
