The editor-in-chief of Hindi Khabar and senior journalist, Agrawal had written a Facebook post alleging he was robbed of Rs 5,000 by armed assailants near Noida Extension last week. The Uttar Pradesh police, however, has said that the journalist’s claims of being robbed in Noida were untrue as no such incident took place according to their investigation.
While he did not file an FIR, Noida Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident based on the social media posts he shared even though Agrawal had not informed the police of the incident, The Indian Express reported last week. The Noida Police later said that there was no truth in Agarwal’s allegations, adding that the cops had gone through the CCTV footage and spoken to the Hindi TV journalist’s female friend, who he had met for an evening meal at her house.
In its investigation, the police found that Agarwal had received a call from his wife when he was at his female friend’s house in the evening. He immediately left his friend’s house after receiving a call from his wife, the police said adding, later, he went looking for an OYO hotel.
The Noida Police released a statement in Hindi on the social networking platform on Twitter. It stated that Aggarwal had fabricated the story of being mugged and spread "false information" on Twitter for personal reasons. He had claimed that he was looted by armed men in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida Extension on the intervening night of June 19 and 20 (Saturday-Sunday).
While wife and anchor Tripathi has kept her silence on this matter, on Twitter, users are constantly asking her to give her statement on this incident. Regarding this, a user wrote in his tweet, “Chitra Tripathi till today anchor and husband of BJP spokesperson Chitra Tripathi robbed in Noida ji, if this loot had happened in Mayawati or Akhilesh government, what would have been your attitude? Would you keep quiet like that?”
Another wrote, “Journalist Atul Agrawal was robbed at gunpoint just 250 to 300 meters away from the police station in Noida Extension, survived. That’s a big deal Chitra Tripathi, the so-called undeclared spokesperson of Ram Rajya. She will say something about this Ram Rajya.”

Chitra Tripathi is from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She is a popular Hindi news anchor, has worked in India News, ABP, and Aaj Tak. She is currently working as Deputy Editor and Anchor at popular Indian news channel Aaj Tak. On her official Twitter account, she described in the bio that she is the winner of the Ramnath Goenka award in 2015. As an anchor, she engages with her guests in daily debates and does news reading on the channel.
She is married to her colleague Atul Agrawal. The couple got married in 2008 after dating each other for a long time. They met each other on the sets of a news channel as her husband Agrawal is also a news anchor by profession.
