US Will Send Raw Materials For Covishield: Speaking to Advisor Ajit Doval about the COVID case spikes in India, the US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed that the US will send raw materials for Covishield to India to scale up the vaccine production.

The US Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the “United States stands in solidarity with the people of India.” He also mentioned in his conversation with the India National Security Advisor Ajit Doval that the United States has “identified supplies of therapeutics, rapid diagnostic test kits, ventilators and PPE suits” which will also be provided and made “immediately” available to India.

There has been a critical shortage of vaccines as well as resources in India due to the immense rising cases in the country every day. India is currently battling new cases of over three lakhs daily. Indian hospitals have reportedly run out of beds, manpower, resources, and oxygens due to the increasing demands over the past month.

The shortage of oxygen in India has put a risk on many lives including COVID-19 patients and patients fighting other diseases. The United States also said that they will be pursuing oxygen generators and other related supplies to be used by India urgently.

US President Joe Biden also tweeted that the United States is “determined” to help out during its time of need. He also mentions how India has extended the same help and assistance to their country during their time of need. “Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, the United States is determined to help India in its time of need” the POTUS tweeted.

The offer of help from the United States on the raw materials came after the Serum Institute of India’s (SII) CEO, Adar Poonawalla tweeted to the US President asking him for the export of raw materials required for the large scale vaccine production. The SII is the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer and also manufactures Covishield. The price for the Covishield vaccine in both government hospitals and private hospitals has also been announced. According to the SII, the Covishield vaccine will cost Rs 600 per dose for private hospitals and Rs 400 per dose for government hospitals.
