Tech Founder Dave McClure Apologises For Inappropriate Behaviour

Dave McClure, co-founder of accelerator and investment firm 500 Startups, has made a public apology for his inappropriate behaviour towards women.

In a post titled “I’m a creep. I’m sorry”, McClure talks about how he made inappropriate advances to women. He posted an apology after the New York Times released a story about how he had acted inappropriately towards Sarah Kunst who was seeking a job at 500 Startups in 2014.

He sent her a message that said “I was getting confused figuring out whether to hire you or hit on you.”

“I put people in compromising and inappropriate situations, and I selfishly took advantage of those situations where I should have known better. My behaviour was inexcusable and wrong.”

"I’m ashamed I didn’t change my behaviour until I was forced to do so by circumstance and by others. The reality is, I was stopped from further bad actions by those who spoke up about my offences, at substantial risk to their personal and professional reputations…" he wrote.

He also says that he has agreed to hand over the role of CEO to a colleague and has begun counselling to address his “shitty behaviour”.

He also apologised to Sarah Kunst who was mentioned in NYT.
