A rape convict hurled a slipper at the judge of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Surat, Gujarat, today. He was being given life imprisonment, the rest of his natural life, for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl on April 30 this year. The judgement was given on the basis of statements from 26 witnesses and 53 documentary evidence.
The judgement was made by special POCSO judge PS Kala. After the sentence was given to the convict, Sujit Saket. Saket picked his slipped and hurled it towards the judge. The convict missed the aim and the slipper fell near the witness box. Saket is a resident of Madya Pradesh. He was found guilty of murder and rape.

The deceased was the daughter of a migrant labourer. The incident took place in April when Saket, on finding the child alone, kidnapped her under the pretext of giving chocolate. According to the prosecution, the incident took place in an isolated place. After raping her, Saket strangled her to death. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the convict at Hazira police station. He was charged with sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO Act.

In February this year, a special POCSO court in Ranchi sentenced a man to 20 years of imprisonment for raping a minor girl, The incident took place in 2019. The 16-year-old deceased had gone missing while returning from the sports tournament.
