Police in Rajasthan arrested a private school teacher Thursday for allegedly raping a girl student of class sixth on the pretext of giving her tuition classes. As per reports, the incident occurred in the state’s Karauli district and came to light after parents of the girl made a police complaint in the matter. The accused attempted to escape but was apprehended in time near a bus stand in the village.
On the morning of January 4, the minor girl went to school following the accused’s call for some tuition classes. When the girl’s mother went to pick her up early evening from the school, she heard cries from behind a closed door, according to News18.
When she pushed open the door, the woman found her daughter with her clothes loose on her body, reports say. She along with her husband proceeded to file a complaint with the local police who captured the man before he could make an escape.
The accused has been charged under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Rajasthan in recent months has reported multiple cases of rape accusations against teachers. In October last year, the principal of a government school in Jhunjhunu district was arrested after raping a class seventh girl student on campus. For the second consecutive year, Rajasthan has topped the list for states with the highest number of rapes in India, as per the latest 2020 data presented by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). 5310 rape cases were reported in Rajasthan during a period of one year, with a crime rate of 28.1 rape cases per lakh population.
