Patiala Man Raped Cousin: A Patiala man has been booked under the POSCO act for allegedly raping his minor cousin and impregnating her. The minor girl delivered a baby three weeks ago.

A minor girl aged 15-years hailed from Varanasi where her parents lived. She was living with her cousin in his house in Patiala for the past five years. The sexual assault survivor was pregnant and delivered a baby at the Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. After which her family came to know about the abuse. The survivor's family was reportedly hesitant to file a complaint and had left for Varanasi.
According to the police statement, the survivor said that she was repeatedly raped by her cousin. He also threatened her that if she tried to tell anyone about the crime then he would kill her parents.
Ronnie Singh, station house officer (SHO), Urban Estate said in his statement, "The victim’s family came to know about the crime after she delivered a child on June 12. The family was earlier hesitant to file a formal complaint and had left for Varanasi."
He added, "According to the victim, she was repeatedly raped by her cousin, who even threatened to kill her parents if she dared to tell them about the sexual assault."
The police have registered a case under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code besides under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The suspect is on the run according to the police statement and hence no arrest has been made so far.
