IAS Officer P Amudha Appointed Joint Secretary In Prime Minister’s Office

P Amudha joins PMO

Senior bureaucrat P Amudha has been appointed as Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) after a bureaucratic reshuffle. Amudha is a 1994 batch India Administrative Services (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre and she will be joining the PMO with 15 other senior officials of elite services from different categories, according to the Business Standard. The appointees will serve the Centre under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs till 2022, an order issued by Personnel Ministry said. Also, senior 1995 batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer Keshav Chandra becomes the Director of Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), reported The Economic Times.

Amudha is currently working as a Professor at Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie. She was inspired by her grandmother and grandfather, who was a freedom fighter, to become an IAS officer. Talking about her granny's influence on her, Amudha spoke to DT Next and said, "She told me that the position was 'equal to a King' and if I wanted to do good for the society, then I should become a Collector."

Initially, when she was appointed as Collector of Dharmapuri, a district in Tamil Nadu, Amudha faced many challenges in eradicating low female literacy rate and female infanticide.

In the past, she was the executive director of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women in the Tamil Nadu Government and has worked as a program officer with the United Nations Children's Fund for Water and Sanitation. For many years, Amudha was also the district collector with the Land Revenue Management and District Administration.

Last year, the IAS officer served as a Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration in the state. Prior to joining as the additional chief electoral officer in the Public (Elections) Department in the Tamil Nadu Government, Amudha chaired as the project director in the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Tamil Nadu Government and member-secretary of the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society.
