It is rightly said that there is good and bad both on this earth. While abandoned by biological parents, a journalist couple, Sakshi Joshi and Vinod Kapri, adopted a newborn baby, who was yesterday found on the roads of Rajasthan. From trash bin to the safe confines of hospital, the couple proved there is humanity still left in this world.

The video is reportedly said to be from the Barnel Village of Nagaur. The little angel was found in pitiful condition and was taken straight away to the hospital when people found her. Kapri named her Pihu, as suggested by a follower on Twitter. Doctors of JLN Hospital took charge of the little angel and she is recovering now. The weight of the baby was 1.6 kg, which is a cause of concern still and she also had respiratoty problem.

The couple has received a flood of applause from Twitterati. Kapri has informed that he is applying for the adoption of the baby with CARA (Central Adoption Resource Authority) and said it might be a long drawn legal process.

Kapri thanked Twitter as it was from this social media platform that he came to know about the abandoned baby. He also thanked his friend who helped him find the exact location of the baby. He says, “ I don’t think there ever has been such a great day in my life as 14th June. We know that a little angel is coming to our home. Though we know that the adoption process in our country is long, but with your wishes and love, we’ll cross all barriers and our daughter will surely come to our home.”

Adoption Regulation In India

The CARA process of adopting a baby is long and complicated. CARA is a statutory body of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India. It functions as the nodal body for the adoption of Indian children and is mandated to monitor and regulate in-country and inter-country adoptions. CARA is designated as the Central Authority to deal with inter-country adoptions in accordance with the provisions of the Hague Convention on Inter-country Adoption, 1993, ratified by Government of India in 2003.

The most recent adoption regulation in India was that enforced on January 16, 2017. According to them, a child is eligible for adoption, if (a) any orphan or abandoned or surrendered child, is declared legally free for adoption by the Child Welfare Committee; (b) a child of a relative defined under sub-section (52) of section 2 of the Act; (c) child or children of spouse from earlier marriage, surrendered by the biological parent(s) for adoption by the step-parent.

Moreover, to be an adoptive parent, following conditions should be met: the consent of both the spouses for the adoption shall be required, in case of a married couple; a single female can adopt a child of any gender; a single male shall not be eligible to adopt a girl child. Also, no child shall be given in adoption to a couple unless they have at least two years of a stable marital relationship.
