In a non-English version of the Oscar-winning film Promising Young Woman, Universal Pictures dubbed Laverne Cox’s voice with a man. To this, the Film Studio later apologised.

Laverne Cox certainly considered one of Hollywoods most high-profile transgender actor, plays coffee shop owner Gail. While dubbing the movie in different non-English versions, Cox’s character was dubbed by Italian actor Roberto Pedicini.

Universal Pictures International said in a statement, “We are deeply grateful to Laverne and the transgender community for opening our eyes to a bias that neither we nor many in our industry had recognised.” They further added that there was no malicious intent behind this mistake. They said they are working diligently to fix it.

The film studio said that have begun redubbing Cox’s voice with female actors in international territories and is pushing back the release dates of the movie Promising Young Women to ensure the correct version is available. Further, Universal Pictures apologised for the pain caused and said that they are thankful that they could address the situation on this film and prevent similar mistakes from happening again on future projects.

The actor herself has not given a comment on it yet and nor has Promising Young Woman‘s British writer and director Emerald Fennell.
