The case received widespread attention online and political leaders from the opposition sought action.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Sanjay Singh on his verified Twitter account shared that Gupta’s family told him, “Vivek Gupta used to harass his daughter, police officers also supported Vivek, everyone tortured her so much that the daughter had to give up her life…”

Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party (SP) said Gupta’s parting note revealed the “poor law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh” and demanded a high-level judiciary enquiry in the matter. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait’s Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) too weighed in with the same demand.
