The husband hails from Gurugram in Haryana but is settled in Dubai. The victim, who has been staying at her parent's house since June 2021, alleged that her in-laws weren't content with what she brought with her as dowry. They would also behave very coldly with her due to the same reason, as per a report.

They also asked her to abort her baby when she disclosed to them about her pregnancy in March last year. She had to get an abortion done at a gynaecologist's clinic in Thaltej in April last year. According to a report in TOI, the father visited her house in Dubai in January this year and gifted her husband 60 grams of gold and 1 kg of silver but the son-in-law was adamant and stood firm on his demand.

Such incidents prove the abysmal condition of brides in India who struggle to get the much deserved love and acceptance from their husband and in-laws due to the issue of dowry plaguing the country. There are very few men who refuse to take dowry from the bride's side. One such man is Jitendra Kumar, A BSF constable of Jaipur, who rejected the 11 lakh rupees offered to him in cash as dowry. Instead, he accepted 11 rupees and a coconut as a token from the bride’s parents. According to him, the education and achievements of his bride are more valuable than the dowry.
