Girls Beaten Up In Rajasthan School For Singing National Anthem 'Softly'

Some girl students in one of the schools in Rajasthan were allegedly beaten up violently for not singing the national anthem loud enough. Sources told the TOI that the girls study in a school at Sabalpura village in Sikar district. During a morning assembly on Thursday they were where apparently singing the national anthem "softly".

Their mistake to not sing the anthem loudly enough had turned into punishment and now "The girls were made to squat for an hour and then thrashed. Some of them fainted because of the ordeal and suffered swelling in their legs," said a villager, according to TOI.

The four girls are students of Class IX in Rajkiya Aadharsh Uch Madyamik Vidhyalaya.

The principal of this government senior secondary school at Sabalpura village in Sikar district was angry when she noticed that the students were singing the national anthem softly and decided to bestow upon them this extreme punishment.

The thrashing left them with swollen legs and some of them even fainted because of the cruel action.

Sources also mentioned that the young girls were hospitalised and are under observation at a government hospital.

Naturally, parents were furious over the incident. Many of whom gathered in the school compound the moment the young women were hospitalized. They started bashing the school for its ruthless behaviour and shouted slogans against the treatment followed. Majority of them are demanding strict action against the school's principal.

When asked if any FIR was lodged regarding the incident, a senior officer said, "The matter also came to our notice but neither the parents nor the girls were willing to lodge a complaint.”
