Geeta Phogat hasn't felt better as she does now. Her focus is on the upcoming commonwealth games in 2018 and Olympics 2020. And practise is on in full earnest. But as Geeta dreams of setting up her own academy because she wants India to have many 'Geetas.' "Main sports mein kuch karna chahoongi kyonki main ek wrestler hoon. Ek academy bananein ka dream hai," said the gold medalist in an exclusive conversation with SheThePeople.TV.

Geeta has been outspoken about stereotypes women face and the need for us to use sport for changing mindsets. She said there was no tool as powerful to prove women could leap forward without fear, if they embraced a sport.

ON BEING A CELEBRITY

Now that Geeta is known throughout the nation after Dangal became a massive success and she also became a part of the television show 'Khatron Ke Khiladi', she says, “Everyone who is working in any field wants to be successful and famous where everybody knows them by their face and name. So it feel great to become one solely because of my work.”

Since I am from the sports background, I want to keep my work limited to this field. And whatever I can do, I will do to promote young girls in wrestling

She said, “Sports makes a person’s life disciplined. It is a very cumbersome job, so one needs a lot of hard work to reach a desired stage. Discipline and hard work are the qualities that will take you higher in any and every field.”

ON WOMEN’S CRICKET TEAM

“Firstly, I want to congratulate every player for taking the Indian team to the final with a fantastic performance. And this shows that today women are coming up in every field and that they are not below or behind anyone.”

HER OWN ACADEMY

Currently, all of Geeta’s focus is on wrestling as 2018 is when Commonwealth Games is going to be held and 2020 is when Olympics and Asian Games are scheduled. She says, “Since I am from the sports background, I want to keep my work limited to this field. And whatever I can do, I will do to promote young girls into wrestling. I have thought of opening a wrestling academy for girls and I would like corporates and the government to help me run it, so we can produce many more Geeta's and Babita's in future.”
