A woman has recently donned the mantle of Ringmaster, or shall we say Ringmistress, at the famous Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus. This is the first time since its inception – almost its 146-year history -- that the circus has picked a woman to be its ringmaster.
Florida-based Kristen Michelle Wilson (35) was chosen among more than 100 others who had applied for the position.

On December 15, Wilson led her second show on the company's Circus XTREME tour in Huntsville, Alabama.
The day before she described her first show night as "absolutely thrilling", when she directed the circus as the first female ringmaster of the Ringling Bros. Earlier, she told Good Morning America, "I'm so honored and excited to be the first female ringmaster of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and that is just a thrill to even say it."

Wilson describes the part of being a ringmaster as "you get to be yourself, but you get to be the grandest version of yourself", and she loves what she is assigned for, which is directing the show while singing, talking, and riding a float. But she skips doing stunts in her act.

“I definitely have a larger-than-life personality and I’m really excited about it because that’s really one of the best things about being a ringmaster: You get to be yourself, but you get to be the grandest version of yourself,” she added.

Wilson is the 39th ringmaster of the organization. "Ever since I was a child, I have loved performing and entertaining," Wilson told NYTimes. "So, to join the 'greatest show on earth' is truly just the biggest thrill of my life. It's a bucket list-level opportunity I never even imagined."
Ringling's Circus XTREME show featured 107 performers and 50 animals, including 16 tigers.
"I'm so honored to join this incredible tradition," Wilson said.
We with her all the luck in the world as she is indeed breaking the chain. Go Kristen!
