Dombivli Gangrape Case Update: In the Dombivli alleged gangrape case of a minor, Thane Police has arrested one more accused bringing the tally to 33. According to the Thane Police team which is in charge of the investigation, the arrested individuals include two minors, who have been sent to the Child Correction Home.
The accused men allegedly assaulted the girl over the period of nine months at multiple locations including Dombivli, Badlapur, Murbad and Rabale. in her complaint, the survivor has claimed that the sexual assaults took place between January 29 and September 22.
The case was registered by the Manpada police on September 24. On the same day, the police arrested 27 people, while on looked out for many others named in the case.
The police said that on the basis of the complaint filed, the case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code which includes the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The survivor in her statement to the police, in December 2020, the girl’s friend introduced her to the main accused Vijay Fuke. They shared the numbers and started a conversation over the phone. The main accused allegedly showed the girl a morphed naked photographed of her and used it to sexually assault her alongside a friend. The accused also shot a video, which was circulated amongst his friends. The accused allegedly blackmailed the girl into coming to different locations where her drinks were reportedly spiked and she gangraped multiple times.
Earlier there were speculations of the case having a political connection. These rumours were denied by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sonali Dhole. The ACP added that all the accused were either survivor’s friends or friends of friends.
