Harrowing news of the rape and murder of a minor girl surfaced on the internet. The alleged incident took place in the Dungarpur district in Rajasthan.
On Thursday, June 30, 2022, a deceased body of a minor girl was found in Dungarpur district's, Sadar Police Station Area. The police then proceeded to take her to the hospital for autopsy and identification. The police statement read, “The girl was lying naked under a bridge located near the village. Her body was taken to Dungarpur District Hospital, following which, a medical board was constituted and a post-mortem was conducted. The body was handed over to the family members of the deceased after the post-mortem".
The police also revealed that the accused is identified as Jitendra Katara. He is a 30-year-old, reportedly the grandson of a former village sarpanch. He is accused of raping and then murdering the minor girl, after the police looked at the injuries sustained by the deceased.
What We Know About Dungarpur Rape Case
Local news reports reveal that Jitendra Katara, forcefully kidnapped the girl from the premises of her house and then allegedly raped and murdered her, while being under the influence of alcohol. DSP Rakesh Sharma has revealed that on interrogation, the accused has been found guilty of the crime and it has come to light that the incident occurred on June 28, 2022. As seen in different media reports, the minor girl's age cannot be confirmed as some have reported it to be 9 and some have 10.
Reportedly, the girl belonged to a tribal community.
Social media users are angered by the incident and are demanding strictest punishment for the accused Jitendra Katara. "When will action be taken against those who committed atrocities against ? Silence of police administration is promoting atrocities" a user questioned on Twitter, demanding justice for the minor girl.
"The incident of brutality and murder of a minor girl in Dungarpur is very shameful and condemnable. The culprit who commits such an act should be given capital punishment." another user wrote on Twitter, while one tweet read- "Rarest of the rare crime..should be treated as an act of terror..hang him!". 'For how long will the women be victims of such cruelty' ask the netizens as they probe the government to come up with stricter laws and hang the culprits.
