To defend her Commonwealth Games title and win India the first gold medal of the Birmingham edition on Saturday, Mirabai Chanu dominated the 49kg field as expected. The Commonwealth Games record was set by the Olympic silver medalist, who combined a total of 201kg (88kg + 113kg) to establish her dominance in the tournament. Bindyarani Devi earned the silver medal in the women's 55 kg division, bringing India's total number of medals to four.

Young weightlifter Sanket Sargar won a silver medal in the men's 55kg category on Saturday, helping India add to its medal haul at the Commonwealth Games and partially fulfilling a promise he made to himself four years earlier. At the Commonwealth Games, weightlifter Gururaja Poojary added to India's medal haul by winning a bronze medal in the men's 61kg division.

CWG 2022 Indian Women Winners

At the Commonwealth Games, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (70 kg) defeated Ariana Nicholson by a score of 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the women's light middleweight division while the Indian women's hockey team defeated Wales by a score of 3-1. In a shocking exit from the women's table tennis team competition, defending champions India, featuring star paddler Manika Batra, lost to Malaysia 3-2 in the quarterfinals.

Mirabai Chanu - Weightlifting

On July 30, 2022, during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu broke four records in a thrilling performance to win India's first gold medal ever. Chanu broke the Commonwealth and CWG record in snatch in a stunning display. A far cry from her personal best, the former world champion finished with a total lift of 201 kg (88 kg + 113 kg). With a lift of 88 kg in the Women's 49kg Snatch category at the Tokyo Olympics, silver medalist Mirabai Chanu equalled the National Record, established a new Games Record, and broke the Commonwealth Record. Chanu became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at the Olympics, the second Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari, and the second Indian woman to win an Olympic silver after PV Sindhu with a total lift of 202 kg at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Chanu successfully lifted 115 kg in the clean and jerk, setting a new Olympic record. Her victory clinched India's first medal at the Olympics in Tokyo. Following the Tokyo Olympics, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh declared that she will get a reward of Rs. 1 crore. Ashwini Vaishnav, the minister of Indian Railways, declared an award worth 2 crores, a promotion, and other things for her.

Bindyarani Devi - Weightlifting

The weightlifter Bindyarani Devi's home is filled with joy after she won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The Indian weightlifter finished second in the women's 55kg final of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday with a total lift of 202 kg. In the women's 55kg division, Bindyarani Devi's first snatch attempt resulted in a successful lift of 81 kg. Bindyarani successfully lifted 84 kg on her second try without breaking a sweat. Bindyarani's third attempt at the 86kg snatch in the final snatch category was successful. She made her maiden attempt at lifting 110 kg in the Clean and Jerk lift category. She failed to lift the 114 kg in her second attempt. She successfully lifted the weight in her last attempt in category 116kg to win India's silver medal and place fourth overall. With her final clean and jerk lift in the women's 55kg division, the Indian weightlifter broke the Commonwealth Games record.

Sushila Devi Likmabam - Judo

Indian judoka Shushila Devi Likmabam took home the silver medal in the women's 48 kg weight division during the judo competition at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. She is an inhabitant of India's Manipur state. Chloe Rayner had been earlier pinned by Likmabam in the semifinals. In the women's 48 kg judo, she took home the silver medal. At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, she won India's seventh medal and the nation's first outside of weightlifting. At the games, she took home the silver medal in the women's 48 kg division.

Harjinder Kaur - Weightlifting

At the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Harjinder Kaur won a bronze medal in the women's 71 kg weightlifting on Monday in a dramatic way. Kaur appeared set to place fourth in the competition, but after Nigeria's Joy Eze's three clean-and-jerk efforts failed, Kaur unexpectedly won bronze.

Rupa/Lovely/Nayanmoni/Pinki - Lawn Bowls

Lawn bowls is one of the sports featured at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England. Lawn bowls have been a part of every Commonwealth Games since 1966, and this will be the third time it has been played in England specifically. On Tuesday's fifth day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, India won four more medals. The women's lawn bowls team won the "fours" final to earn the nation's first-ever medal in the sport.

Tulika Mann - Judo 

In the women's 78 Kg final, Indian judoka Tulika Maan defeated Scottish judoka Sarah Adlington to win the silver medal. India now has 16 medals from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games thanks to Mann's efforts. For the gold medal bout, Maan wore the blue judogi while Adlington was spotted wearing the white uniform. Despite her two Shidos, Maan was led by the second highest score known as waza-ari before Adlington executed a stunning play to secure the ippon and the golden metal.

Sakshi Malik - Wrestling



Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik won gold at the Women's Freestyle 62Kg competition at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.  In the finale, she triumphed over Canadian Ana Godinez Gonzalez. In the quarterfinal, the 29-year-old used better technical skills to defeat England's Kelsey Barnes 10-0, and in the semifinal, she defeated Berthe Emilienne Etane Ngolle of Cameroon 10-0 with similar skills.

Anshu Malik - Wrestling



In the Women's Freestyle 57kg division final on Friday at the Commonwealth Games 2022, wrestler Anshu Malik fell to Nigeria's Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye 3-7, earning silver. The current champion, Adekuoroye, has won gold in the 2014 (53 kg) and 2018 CWGs (57kg).

Anshu Malik is a freestyle wrestler from India. At the 2021 World Wrestling Championships in Oslo, Norway, she took home the silver medal in the women's 57 kg category. She is the first wrestler from India to take home a silver medal in the women's division of the World Championships. On Friday, Anshu Malik lost to Nigeria's Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye in the Women's Freestyle 57kg division final, taking home silver instead of gold.

Divya Kakran - Wrestling



On Friday, Indian wrestler Divya Kakran defeated Tiger Lily Cocker Lemalie 2-0 to win the bronze medal. Kakran had already earned a bronze medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, making this her second medal overall. The wrestler placed third in the 68kg division at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palmbarg and has two gold medals to her record from the Asian Championships.

Vinesh Phogat - Wrestling



Vinesh Phogat won the gold medal in the Women's Freestyle 53 kg division. She triumphed over Sri Lanka's Chamodya Keshani Maduravalage Don. Phogat prevailed via fall to win the gold medal contest 4-0. She won the second gold medal of the day for India at the CWG in two minutes and 24 seconds.

Bhavina Patel - Para TT



Bhavina Patel of India won the women's singles class 3-5 gold medal in para table tennis at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Saturday in Birmingham. In the final, Ifechukwude Christiana Ikpeoyi of Nigeria was upset by the 35-year-old athlete in three straight games (12-10, 11-2, and 11-9) after winning silver at the Paralympics in Tokyo the previous year. It culminated in a stellar season for Bhavina, who lost only one game in five games. That "blip" occurred during her first match, which she lost to Australian Daniel di Toro. She defeated the opponent 3-1.

Priyanka Goswami - Athletics



Priyanka Goswami won silver in the 10000-meter race walk. In the race walk and athletics, at the Commonwealth Games 2022, she becomes the first Indian woman to take home a medal. Priyanka sets a new Indian National Record for a 10000-meter race walk with a time of 43:38:82. Khushbir Kaur formerly held the national record in India with a time of 44 minutes, 35.5 seconds in 2017. At the Commonwealth Games 2022, Jemima Montag of Australia won the gold medal in the race walk with a time of 42:34:00. In 2018, she triumphed in a 20-kilometre race walk on the Gold Coast.

Jasmine Lamboria - Boxing



Jasmine Lamboriya, an Indian boxer competing in the Lightweight division, took home the bronze medal after falling to Gemma Paige of England. Jasmine, who is from Bhiwani, Haryana, won a split decision (4-1) over Troy Garton of New Zealand to go to the semi-finals, ensuring that India would win a medal in the sport of boxing. At the Birmingham 2022 Games, Jasmine gave India their 30th medal. She is the first boxer to declare in writing what colour her medal will be.

Pooja Ghelot, Pooja Sihag - Wrestling



As Pooja Gehlot, Pooja Sihag, and Deepak Nehra confirmed their bronze medals, India's wrestling team concluded their 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games campaign with all twelve wrestlers receiving medals. With a technical victory over Australia's Naomi de Bruine, Pooja Sihag (76 kg) also won the bronze medal.

Sonalben Patel - Para TT



Sonalben Manubhai Patel won bronze for India in the women's singles class 3-5. In the match, the 34-year-old Indian defeated Sue Bailey of England 11-5, 11-2, and 11-3.

Nitu Ghanghas - Boxing



The 48 kg gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games, Nitu Ghangas, benefits from both strength and speed in the ring. The experts were amazed by these traits. Raffaele Bergamasco first recognised Nitu was unique four years ago, at the beginning of his tenure as the women's international boxing coach for India. He instructed Bhaskar Chandra Bhatt, a youth coach at the time, to keep him informed of her development.

Nikhat Zareen - Boxing



India's top boxer Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the Light Flyweight division at the Commonwealth Games 2022, which are taking place in Birmingham, United Kingdom this year, filling the entire nation with pride. At the Commonwealth Games on Sunday, August 7, world champion Nikhat Zareen defeated Northern Ireland's Carly MC Naul in the women's 50kg (Light Flyweight) final to win the nation's third consecutive boxing gold medal of the day. She was able to win all of the judges' unanimous verdicts because of her agility and knack for timing her blows.

Women’s Hockey Team - Bronze



In the women's hockey competition on Sunday, India defeated New Zealand to win the bronze medal. With a goal from Salima Tete, India was on track to win. However, Olivia Merry tied the score for New Zealand in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, sending the game into a shootout. Savita Punia, the goalie and captain of India, made some excellent saves to help her team win 2-1 in the shootout.

Annu Rani - Women’s Javelin Throw



Annu Rani's bronze medal in the women's javelin throw final at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Sunday added to India's streak of athletics medals. With a throw of 60 metres on her fourth attempt, Rani was able to finish third in the final, which was won by Australia's Kelsey-Lee Barber and included fellow countrywoman Mackenzie Litte in second place. On Day 10 of CWG 2022, Rani won her first CWG medal haul, as India won four medals in the athletics competition.

Gayatri/Treesa - Badminton (Women’s doubles)



Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand of India won the bronze medal in the women's singles badminton competition. The team won their first doubles medal at the Games by defeating Australia's Chen Hsuan-Yu Wendy and Gronya Somerville 21-15, 21-19 in a row. Overall, this is their second CWG medal after winning silver in the mixed team competition earlier in the same edition.
