Media is one of the industries where it isn’t uncommon to see women running the show. Here are some of the top female editors of leading media and publishing companies in India:
Chiki Sarkar- She was the dynamic publisher of Penguin RandomHouse, who quit to start digital first book publishing company, Juggernaut. The company has produced blockbusters like Kohinoor by William Dalrymple and Anita Anand, and Rekha: the Untold Story by Yasser Usman in just 8 months of its inception.
Rega Jha– She came to Mumbai to set up Buzzfeed’s India operations when she was only 22. Since her arrival, she has built a robust team which produces some great content. The Buzzfeed India Facebook page has over a million likes. She is a feminist and speaks her mind.
Priya Tanna– She is the glamorous Editor-in-Chief of Vogue India. Since its launch in 2007, the magazine has come to represent the best of Indian fashion. She worked as a journalist for 14 years before Vogue, and has edited popular lifestyle supplement DNA After Hours.
Shereen Bhan– The biggest businessmen and women in the country know who she is. She took over as Managing Editor of CNBC TV 18 in 2013 and has broken key business news stories in recent times. She is also the host of Young Turks, a hugely popular show on upcoming entrepreneurs.
Meru Gokhale- She is the Editor-in-Chief of Literary Publishing at PenguinRandomHouse India. She has worked in publishing for over ten years and has published best selling and critically acclaimed authors like Neel Mukherjee and Jhumpa Lahiri.
Ritu Kapur– She is the founder and editor of digital news platform The Quint, which has over five million monthly visitors. She used to head Programming at History Channel, was Features Editor at CNN IBN, where she launched the popular CJ (Citizen Journalist) Show, among others.

She was the Bureau Chief, South India, for Times Now for almost three years, before co-founding The News Minute. Dhanya Rajendran and her team were also the recipient of the Digital Women Awards 2015.
Archna Shukla– She is the editor in chief of News Corp’s VCCircle. Earlier she was part of the founding team at Mint and also worked as a senior editor at the Indian Express. VC Circle is a business information website covering private equity, venture capital, M&A, investment banking, capital markets, and emerging companies.
Milee Ashwarya- She is Editor in Chief of Commercial and Business Books at Penguin Random House India. She began her career at Rupa and joined Random House India in 2008. She has worked with authors such as Dr. Firuza R Parikh, Cyrus Broacha, and Payal Gidwani Tiwari.
Madhu Trehan– She was the founder editor of India Today. She has co-founded digital platform Newslaundry. The website boasts that it is a fair and independent media outlet with no biases and compromises. Trehan is also a regular contributor to leading magazines and papers such as Outlook India, and the Hindustan Times.
