BMC Education Budget: On Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that it has set its education budget at ₹2945.78 crores.
This year's BMC education budget is slightly higher than last year's which was fixed at ₹2944.59 crores. The rise in the education budget is as good as negligible.
What Does The BMC education budget include?
The municipal corporation has already set aside ₹15.90 crores which will be used for procuring all the COVID-19 equipment such as hand sanitisers, hand wash, masks, pulse oximeters, soap, etc. This has been done because schools will be re-opening soon.

During the pandemic, our Virtual Training Centre teachers uploaded pre-recorded lessons on 40 YouTube channels in Marathi, Hindi, Urdu & English for Std. I to Std. X.
Budget Provision:
Primary - Rs. 8:05 Cr
Secondary - Rs. 5.10 Cr
The body has also decided on forming a child protection team which will pay attention to matters wherein child rights have been abused. A police draft on this move will soon be ready.

Apart from that, ₹2 crores will be used up in opening 10 new CBSE schools which will come under the sway of the municipal body. ₹1 crore will be given to the Mumbai Marathi Granth Sangrahalaya for running 29 libraries. ₹244.01 crores will be used for improving various facilities and infrastructure of schools.
The BMC started presenting its entire budget at 2 pm on Wednesday. A senior civic official said that the budget is always increased by 8-10 per cent per year. The officer also revealed that this year's budget will be dedicated towards infrastructure, health and the education sectors. It is also expected that new taxes won't be imposed on the residents of Mumbai.
BMC Joint Commissioner Ramesh Pawar Drank Sanitiser Instead of Water
The BMC commissioner Ramesh Pawar mistook sanitiser for water, and drank while he was presenting the BMC education budget. Other officers tried to stop him, but he had already taken a sip of the sanitiser. However, he was given a water bottle by an official.

BMC's Budget For 2019-20
The BMC budget had stood at ₹33,441.02 crores for the 2019-20 fiscal year. This was about 8.95 per cent more than the budget of 2018-19 which stood at ₹30,692.59 crores.
