'Modern Family' star Ariel Winter has alleged that her estranged mother sexualised her from a very young age. The mother and daughter have not spoken in the last five years.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Winter said that her mother sexualised her from a young age. “If there was going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand percent said yes,” she said.
Her mother Crytal Workman has replied to the allegations that Winder made. She says that she had been concerned over her revealing outfit choices and persona.
"I just want to see her have respect for herself and have some class,” Workman said. “That one in particular, where her leg is raised and she’s holding a martini glass, I saw it and all I could do was cry and feel bad for her.”
“Ariel is starving for attention. I feel that this is a cry for help from my child.”
A far cry from what Ariel said her mother subjected her to.
She said that she wants to repair her relationship with her daughter, and that every girl needs her mom. She spoke about her own difficulties. At one time she says, she lived in a storage space, where there was no heat, and no air for over a year and a half.
Ariel had said that her mother used to dress her in low-cut clothes and the smallest miniskirts at just the age of 7. At age 14, she took her mother to court and claimed physical and emotional abuse
She also took to Instagram to respond to trolls who said things like "you accused your mother of sexualizing you yet you’re a whore".
In her post she says, “ was a CHILD being dressed like I was 24. I was 8-13 years old. I wasn’t an ADULT as I am now.”
Winter says that she wishes she had a better childhood, but she wouldn’t trade it because it made her who she is today. Kudos to Winter for standing up to what she believes in!
