Life imprisonment for killing wife: Days after a A 27-year-old man killed his wife over the suspicion of infidelity, a court in Odisha’s Mayubhanj district sentenced him to life imprisonment under IPC section 302 (murder). He was also imposed a fine of ₹ 10,000. If he fails to pay that, he will undergo rigorous imprisonment for another six months.
The incident took place five years ago in August 2016. He set 20-year-old Rani Singh on fire after tying her legs and hands in his home. She succumbed to the injuries. The couple used to stay at Badhunia village in Bisoi block.
What led him to commit such a heinous crime? As per reports, he had started suspecting his wife of infidelity. She had to be in contact with various persons because of her higher education, that’s when he started thinking that she is cheating on him. She was a trained nurse, as per reports.
As per a public prosecutor, she had to suffer so much because she was a tribal and an educated girl.
Two weeks ago, a Kerala man was sentenced to double life imprisonment for the murder of his wife by inducing a snakebite. The order was passed by a court in Kerala. It held him guilty of poisoning and killing his 25-year-old wife last year. The victim, Uthra, died in 2020 following two consecutive cases of poisoning. According to The News Minute, a viper bit her the first time. She was living at her husband Sooraj and his parents’ house at that time. When she was recuperating at her parents’ place from the first snakebite, a cobra bit her which became the cause of her death. Read more about it here.
