New Zealand captain, Sophie Devine, while playing the domestic Super Smash competition smashed the fastest century in women's Twenty20 history on Thursday. She reached a milestone 100 score in just 36 balls in a domestic match in Dunedin. Not only did Devine set a historic score, but she was also unbeaten at 108 runs off 38 balls.

As per reports, Devine's inevitable record was also the fastest ever century by any player -- men or women -- on New Zealand soil, which led to Wellington Blaze's 10-wicket win as the side stormed past their target of 129 runs in under nine overs.

This was Devine's first game after returning from the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia. The 31-year-old batted nine sixes and seven fours and then capped her innings with two fours to finish with an unbeaten 108 runs. The previous record was held by Deandra Dottin who took 38 balls to reach 100 for the West Indies in South Africa in 2010. "I was really nervous this morning, whenever you have an extended break away from the game, you get nervous about whether you can come back into it," the all-rounder Devine told ESPN.

This was also Devine's sixth T20 century. She also overtook Suzie Bates (five) and Alyssa Healy (five) on the list of most T20 hundreds in women's cricket.

Here's a post-match video of Devine posing for a photo with a little fan:

"Sometimes I get a little bit carried away and we've probably seen it a little bit, and I get a bit over-eager and play some rash shots. So it's nice to stick to some decent cricket shots today and finish the job," she said.

Devine is now prepping to play against England in three T20s and three one-day internationals between February 23 and March 7.
