Mithali Raj at No 1 in ICC Women's ODI player rankings: Mithali Raj, captain of the India women's Test and ODI team, has reclaimed the top spot in women's ODI rankings for batters a couple of days after she became the highest woman run-getter in cricket, announced the ICC.
Raj has reached the milestone following her brilliant show in the three-match series against England. This is the eighth time in her 22-year long international career that Raj has taken the top spot.
India lost the series 1-2 but Raj hit a half-century in each of the contests. She started the tour in the eighth position, scored 59 in the second match and then guided India to a four-wicket victory in the final match of the series. She struck an unbeaten 75. Raj gained four spots to reach the top of the rankings after bettering Charlotte Edwards' tally of 10273 during the third ODI against England in Worcester. The 38-year-old completed the series with 206 runs in three matches, the highest among any player, Sportster reported.

The first time she reached the number one position was in 2005 after scoring an unbeaten 91 against New Zealand at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in Potchefstroom. This gap of more than 16 years at No.1 is the largest for any woman batter. Raj on Saturday told Sky Sports she never gave up in the middle because "you can't win the match sitting out in the dugout." She said she wanted to win the game for the team.
Raj retired from the T20I cricket in September 2019 and was placed at No. 7 on the list of the leading run-scorers in the format. She boasted 2364 runs at an average of 37.52 and a strike rate of 96.33. She completed 22 years as an India cricketer last month.
Earlier this year, Raj created history by becoming the first Indian batswoman to score 10,000 international runs. She broke the record for most international appearances in women’s cricket during the second ODI against South Africa on March 9. She became the most capped female player in the history of international women’s cricket by recording her 310th appearance and surpassed England’s Charlotte Edwards to become the most capped women’s player on the international circuit.
