“How many times have I told this girl to avoid wastage while cooking? Who makes such a big bowl of custard for a 7-month old? How much can he eat?”
She could hear her mother-in-law cribbing in the next room. She continued feeding her baby quietly. She was a docile girl…never the one to answer back or argue.
“Now don’t let it go waste…eat it up…and don’t give it to me…you know I have diabetes. And you take only one roti for lunch otherwise you would complain of stomach ache and make us spend more money on your medicines unnecessarily.” Her mother-in-law shouted out orders to her.
She was also a very obedient daughter-in-law. She did just as she was told. She took the big bowl of custard and sat down to enjoy it.
Custard had been her weakness since childhood.
