Mamata Banerjee was sworn in on Friday as West Bengal's chief minister for a second term, in what may be called the biggest oath ceremony Bengal has seen.

Present at the ceremony were Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and other leaders like Lalu Yadav and Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and the BJP's minister from Bengal Babul Supriyo represented the Centre.

In her current manifesto, women’s safety is given a lot of importance. New all-women police have been constructed. She has also been in the headlines with Kanyashree, an effort that was started by Banerjee in 2013 which literally means girl child. The scheme aims at empowering girls and was also included as a subject in schools. The Kanyashree program also focuses on giving financial assistance to the 27 lakh girls who participated in the scheme.

Banerjee also fought for reservation of women representatives in the parliament which she said should be 33percent. She always maintained that her part has 35percent female representatives in it.
