Lesbian Couple Live Together: Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district court permitted two adult girls who were in a relationship to stay together. One of the girls had run away from her house. Her parents lodged a complaint with the police stating that the girl had been missing for the past several days.

It was later found that the girl was living with her girlfriend in Shahbad area in the district. The two were in a ‘live in’ relationship and they were reluctant to live with their families.

”It was found that they (girls) had been living together for past several days,” said a police official in Rampur. He also added that the parents of both the girls were informed about their relationship. They even tried to convince her to break their relationship and return home. Counselling sessions for both the girls were given to them. However, they didn’t agree and weren’t ready to willing to leave each other. Both of them were adults and so, the police officials didn’t coerce them to go back with their families.

As per sources, the girls were produced before a local magistrate. He heard them and permitted them to live together. The families were also told that they can’t force the girls to live separately otherwise there could be a legal action against them.

The couple is a lucky one because not all lesbian couples have the same fate in India. In 2019, for instance, a 19-year-old girl was beaten up and tied to a tree by residents of her village for being in a lesbian relationship in Odisha. She had been seeing a girl of the same village for the past six months. Villagers even caught them sharing a bed at night. That’s when they beat her up and tied her to a tree to punish her.
