PV Sindhu, saved by a heroic last punch, advanced to the semi-final of the Korea Open Superseries in Seoul. She beat Minatsu Mitani of Japan 21-19 18-21 21-10 on Friday (Sept 15).

After winning the first game and losing the second one, the Olympic Silver Medallist took the lead after Minatsu was knocked down in the third game. Though she was finding it difficult to return, Sindhu gave her best shot in the decider. She thwarted Minatsu with power-packed shots and forehand drives which garnered her a place in the semi-finals.

The match lasted for 63 minutes and it was the Indian who aced the final battle. The fast-rising shuttler had earlier defeated Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol 22-20, 21-17 to set up a clash with Japan's Minatsu Mitani in the quarter-finals.

The fifth seeded Sindhu is all set to crack the semi-final. She will now face off with the winner of the game between 3rd seed Sung Ji Hyun and 6th seed He Bingjiao!
Meanwhile, Sameer Verma ended his #KoreaSS campaign in the quarters after losing 22-20, 10-21, 13-21 to World Number One Son Wan Ho.
Earlier, Parupalli Kashyap had lost in the second round of the $600,000 tournament.
